6 Departments, 1 School, and around 100 Elective courses. A unique challenge was presented in the proposition of a singular system of posters that would unify these varied, vibrant course offerings—while still representing a selection under one School of Design.

   
   

Taking inspiration from the overlooking windows of the Juliana Curran Terian design centre—the very building in which each department of Pratt’s School of Design is situated, a modular grid system was developed which creatively housed all the components needed for students to learn about potential electives to apply for. The motif of cut corners takes inspiration from similar angular forms taking shape all over the School of Design building. The system utilizes the official typefaces of the Pratt Institute’s own identity guidelines.  In order to ensure inclusion of all information provided by professors for their courses, the grid makes allowances and takes advantage of its inspiration for maximum modularity. Longer titles, course categories, multiple sections, and subtitles all fit within the poster.
Each poster is accompanied by a unique photo of spaces iconic to that department or a piece of student work. Each photo is a frame of a larger sequence that provides a stimulating visual when the poster is viewed alone, but also communicates department-based grouping when viewed in conjunction with others. This was the solution for a need to incorporate a unique graphic element per poster when there was 100 of those.
